(This note is more of a personal one.)

Joomla.org.bd was hosted on a "shared host" along with other few hundred sites. In a shared hosting environment, one is as most as safe as the worst vulnerable one. This goes in parallel to the Engish proverb "a chain is as strong as its weakest link." The simple explanatation is that the security of a site depends on the mercy of the other sites hosted of the same host. Joomla itself is secure.

Anti-virus companies are scaremongers and use scare techniques to promote and sell their products. A hacked website with infected scripts has no means on Earth of infecting a visitor's computer. The reason for that, JavaScript has no access to the local file system of the visitor's computer. (On older version of Microsoft Internet Explorer it was possible but IE 6 and later versions have changed the situations.) However a script can access any form data input by a visitor when browsing an infected page. A visitor downloading and installing something without being fully sure what it is, is also at risk. In all kind of security related risks commonsense is still the best effective measure.
3.
I have been spending time with Joomla since 2005. This was a hobby that I enjoyed. Due my other committments these days I do not have much time to maintain the site and the Bangla section of Joomla forum. In recent times I had two persons taken over me, but it didnt work well. I am still trying to find one who could replace me. If I cant find any, this site will discontinue soon.

নিজের জীবন বৃত্তান্ত রাখার জন্য তিন পাতার একটা তৈরী করা যতটা সহজ, হাজার হাজার ব্যবহারকারী বা সদস্যদের জন্য পরিবর্তনশীল বিষয়বস্তু নিয়ে একটা ডায়নামিক ওয়েব সাইট তৈরী করাটা তত সহজ নয়। ছোট আকারের সাইটের জন্য HTML বা বড়জোড় ফ্রন্টপেজের মতো একটা এডিটর ব্যবহার করা যথেষ্ট। কিন্তু একটা ডায়নামিক ওয়েব সাইট তৈরী করা এবং তা নিয়মিত আপডেট করা বেশ ঝামেলার ব্যাপার। ডায়নামিক ওয়েব সাইট বলতে সেসব ওয়েব সাইট বোঝানো হচ্ছে যাদের বিষয় বস্তু নিয়মিত বা প্রায়ই পরিবর্তন হয়। খবরের কাগজ, পোর্টাল, ব্যবহারকারী ফোরাম ইত্যাদি ডায়নামিক সাইটের উদাহরন হতে পারে। |

সম্প্রতি বাংলা ওয়েব সাইট তৈরী বা পুরাতন সাইটকে নতুন রূপে বাংলায় উপস্থানের বেশ একটা চল শুরু হয়েছে। ইউনিকোড আসার পর থেকে এ কাজটা অনেক সহজ হয়ে গেছে। তারপরও ভাল একটা বাংলা সাইট নির্মাণ করতে হলে বেশ কিছু বিষয় জানার প্রয়োজন আছে। এ লেখায় তা আলোচনা করা হয়েছে। |

Joomla has gained tremendous popularity even it is relatively new CMS software. In a recent poll Joomla has topped the list competing with other CMS. Drupal was the second winner. Today a search on Google with Joomla would return four millions English sites. Including other languages this number would be much higher. The Joomla forum has most of the basic information needed to secure a Joomla site.
We have collated them, edited them for clarity and put here for others. We have also written a few tutorials and guide from our own experience with Joomla. Our tutorials and articles include server setup for Joomla, file and directory permissions for joomla, using htaccess to block hacking, using some modifications to common Joomla files and a lot more. In the event of a hacking, restoring a site needs special knowledge and a good expertise on a number issues. We have also some guide on how to restore a joomla site hacked by someone. |

The security of a Joomla site, in fact any site having PHP scripts depends highly the way the web server application (such as Apache) is configured and run on the server. As most servers are Linux based and use Apache as the web server application, we'll look into some issues that may affect the security of a web site.
